THE ABERGAVENNY Festival of Cycling is hitting the road again in 2019 with an exciting programme of racing and mass participation events for everyone to enjoy.

The Festival of Cycling will be holding its well-established Iron Mountain Sportif (the original Tumble Mountain Sportive) on Saturday June 29 when riders, from beginners to the most experienced, can enjoy a day out riding some or all of the Route of Champions.

The majority of the course was used in 2009 and 2014 for the National Road Race Championships and saw Tour de France winners Sir Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome taking part.

And, of course, the 2018 Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas, whose feet have not touched the ground since his victory last summer, has ridden the course during those National Championships.

The Iron Mountain Sportif will probably be the ONLY chance in a supported event this year for riders to challenge themselves and climb the famous Tumble Mountain and reach one of the most awe-inspiring summits in the UK.

There are four sportif distances with rides over 20 and 40 miles of North Monmouthshire before the 70 and 100 miles tackle the Tumble Mountain. Entries are now open [Click Here] for you to join in the fun.

There are also a host of activities taking place in Bailey Park on June 29 so come along for the Monmouthshire Youth Multisports Day and try your hand at some of the activities and challenges that will be on show.

As for racing, there will again be a chance to see the stars of the future – many, like Geraint Thomas, started in cycling at events like this – at the Cwmtillery Glass Monmouthshire Junior Grand Prix around the north of the county and hosted by the town of Grosmont.

That takes place on Sunday June 30 and was a superb day out in 2018, with some thrilling bike riding.

And, talking of thrills, the Wales Open Criterium, part of the HSBC National town Centre Series of professional races, will be back in action around Abergavenny Town Centre on Friday July 5. There will also be supporting races as usual for junior and teenage bikers plus the ever-popular MJ Event Services Cardiac Town Race in aid of the North Gwent Cardiac Rehabilitation and Aftercare charity.

So look inside this site and find out much more about the 2019 Abergavenny Festival of Cycling which promises to be another outstanding event in Monmouthshire, the County of Cycling in Wales.
